Morningside Gallery

window and reflections

Morningside Gallery reflects Morningside Road. The gallery claims to “showcase original paintings and limited editions by some of Scotland’s best known painters alongside the work of promising young Scottish artists” … and the art is obscured by the glass reflecting the houses opposite more perfectly than any painting.

This photo is available on Redbubble: Art and reflections.

summer on the shore

I love the richness of the light reflections on the river after sunset in the summer, in the white nights. This photo is available on Redbubble: Summer Night on the Shore.

A Leith cameo

Like most pubs in Leith, the Cameo Bar has lots of beer, lots of meaty/fishy pub grub, but if you’re vegetarian, better come at the weekend for breakfast. Which they serve at lunchtime.

This photo is available on Redbubble: In the Cameo window.

(No one ever seemed to click on the Google Map tags, so I’m not going to do them any more.)

Banana Flats Bent

Banana flats, Leith

I’ve lived in or near Leith for years, and when people refer to the “banana flats”, I’ve always assumed they meant this block – the yellow and blue looms, and – or so I have heard – if you’re in the top floor, you know why these are banana flats – the block bends, noticeably, in a high wind. Wikipedia identifies a different block of flats nearby (Cables Wynd House) as the “banana flats” – asserting that they are called so because of the shape of the block from the air, curved like a banana. Which is right?

I took this photo here. It’s available on Redbubble: Banana Flats.

Art and reflections in a window. This is MacDonald Framing: they also sell stained glass and mirrors and and lovely woodcraft.
