Ocean Mist on the Shore

This steamer was built ninety years ago by George Brown & Co, Greenock. When begun she was named ‘Samuel Green’ and was intended for the Royal Navy: but she was completed in 1919, and launched as “Ocean Mist”.

For 60 years “Ocean Mist” served as a trawler, mine sweeper and pleasure yacht: when owned by the Guinness family, she ferried racing cars to France and Italy. She retired about 1980 and was brought to Leith, where the Ocean Mist was a floating bar for nearly 20 years. She was derelict for a while, but freshly painted and renamed, The Cruz is now a floating restaurant.

It’s amazing what a ship will do.

The Raj by the Shore

The Raj Restaurant on the Shore does really delicious food, and is a lovely place to eat, looking out over the Water of Leith.

I took this photo here. It’s available on Redbubble: The Raj by the Shore.

Update, 25th March: I’ve been invited to a £20 fundraising buffet for Powerful Partnerships at the Raj: excellent! Thursday 3rd April 2008, 7.30pm onwards.
“Tickets are £20, which I know sounds steep, but you can eat as much as you like of the Raj’s delicious cuisine and the restaurant will then give back 50 per cent of the bill back to Powerful Partnerships- which will be spent on the summer BBQ for all our advocates and their partners.”
